Things we can't control

5 days and 4 nights just the four of us in an air conditioned room - myself, my husband and my two kids. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were served on time by a friendly food server. People in white uniform would occasionally visit our room to check if everything is okay. My husband and I took a leave at work. We have also excused our son, Seandy from school. We just hang around in there. We sang songs, talked, played, read, slept. There were times when my husband or I had to go out and buy some food, since Seandy would not eat the food being served. He craved for pizza, burger, fried chicken, tocino.

But this was not a vacation that I have dreamed for. We were definitely not inside a hotel room. We were under the confinement of Metro South Medical Center. Both of my kids were hospitalized. My eldest was diagnosed for UTI and my youngest for Asthma. It hurts seeing my kids inside the hospital and I am glad this was over. It was even harder since my son had to celebrate his 5th birthday there.

But everything is okay now. I just pray that next time we would really have to spend the vacation anywhere else but there.

The wonders of words

"Popo, E-R", Elijah said. My sister rushed in to take her son to the Bathroom, he needs to go. After a few minutes, he then said again, "Popo, E-R". That meant "Popo, CR". So my sister took him to the Bathroom again. My sister noticed that his son is leaving the bathroom even if he is not finished doing it.

So she told him, "Pag ikaw nagsabi pa na popo-po ka naman, papaluin na kita."

After a few minutes she heard her son said, "Mama, Pa-Pa A-AR", "What?", my sister asked. "Pi-Pi E-R" louder this time. That was when she realized that her son is agan trying to tell her that he wants to go again, but can't since he was afraid to be spanked.

LOL!

Wonderful Prayer from a child

“Mommy, let’s all pray na.” It was my 4-year old son, Seandy. He tried to interrupt the conversation between me and his dad. I guess, it’s our cue to sleep.

We huddled around, holding each other’s hands and closed our eyes. My son then said, “Lord.” Then he stopped and said, “You do it, mom.” I smiled and urged him to do it this time.

Amen.” Then, followed it up with, “I love you so much, Jesus!”
I and my husband repeated each word as he said it. After the prayer, Seandy leaned to each of us to say his goodnight and to kiss us.

As I watched him sleep, I uttered my own prayer. I am just thankful to see my kids grow more each day. And even more thankful that knowing that at an early age God has already touched his heart.

Sweet Dreams

She looks so strong, so mature at her age, and so hurting. Sarah is my cousin and she is just 23 years old. She’s married and has 2 wonderfully adorable kids. I do not know what to say to her as I look at her there - standing beside the coffin of her husband. Just standing not crying. Staring at the most loving man she has known. Her dream boy.

But he has already left. She kept saying, “He should have woken up. We were just sleeping. I still hope this is all part of my bad dream. I hope somebody would wake me up now.”

Her husband, Alfredo Tolentino III, is 25 years old. They were married last 2007 and was about to celebrate their 2nd wedding anniversary this June. But she just said, “Di na niya naantay eh.”

He died of “Pancreatitis” also known as “Bangungot”.

We are about to leave and I told her she can always contact me whenever she needs someone. That’s when she started to cry. She said she doesn’t know what lies ahead. I told her I know it will never be easy, for lack of better words. I know I could not say anything to comfort her. So I just cried with her. I handed her the book I wasn’t finished reading yet, My Utmost to His Highest by Oswald Chambers. I know she needed that more this time. I imagined there would be sleepless nights and times of mourning and of silence. I know it could help if at least she has something to read. Something that would tell her she is not alone. That she is loved. That God will always be by her side.

“I love you, Sarah”. That was all I could afford to tell her. I believe in won’t be long until I can see her genuine smile again. Her passion for life resurfaces. I know it won’t be long God will bring her sweet dreams again.

Mr. Banana Q

One of the highlights of our visit to Zambales was meeting Mr. Banana-Q. Too bad I forgot to ask his name.

We were on our way home when the bus stopped to give us our "bladder break", "yosi break for some".

I did not leave the bus, though. I just heard someone shouting "Banana Q" in a "slang" way. I looked up, curious to find who he was. It was then that he asked us if we like to buy "Banana Q" for only 10 pesos. My teammate bought one. He was then asked "Which do you like soft or hard?", "Yung malambot na lang po.", responded my officemate. I then jokingly asked, "What's that food beside the Banana Q?". I heard him say something like "Kereoke". He then added, "It's made from cassava." (I think it's Karioka).

We were laughing with amazement. He speaks good english and knows how to pronounce it well. He began asking questions that most of us can't answer. But one of our officemates were able to answer 2 of his tricky questions and he was generous enough to give her free "Kereoke".

Someone asked him about his job. He said he has tried working in various companies before - Radio Veritas included, but he decided to sell Banana Q now. He said he liked it better since he is his own boss and he has his own schedule. So true.

Before he left the bus, he even told us to put God in our hearts always.

I am proud of you, Mr. Banana Q. You are one inspiration I would not forget in my life.
